A Word of Caution

Today the Meriden Volunteer Fire Department responded to a brush fire incident behind a residence this afternoon, caused by the homeowner discarding hot ashes in the backyard the night before. With the heightened fire risk and dry conditions throughout the state, please try to refrain from disposing of your fireplace or charcoal grill ashes in such a manner, as they may cause dry fuels on the ground to ignite! If you must dispose of your ash in this way, please make sure they are completely and totally cold and out before tossing! Thank you!
